Bordados Mollo
Virgina - sewing in her community
Beautiful accessories for adults and children (bags, purses, pencil cases) as accessories for the kitchen (bread baskets and oven mitts) that teach us about daily life in the Mollo culture, an indigenous minority group that still maintains their culture intact. Made out of bayetilla, a 100 % acrylic cloth currently used to make their traditional dress decorated with entirely handmade embroidery which depicts scenes and traditions of their culture.
We are 20 mothers who live in our indigenous communities in the countryside. We still maintain our ancestral ways of working and living known as Ayni or Minka. With our embroidery, we show our traditions and community life and in that way pass it on to our children.
We want to improve our living conditions, have a reliable source of electric ty and safe water. We want and our children to go further in their studies and have a better future.
We do not want to leave our community, but rather save our rural way of life that is full of love for mother earth and mutual support between brothers and sisters.
